Shopian 25 June : One unidentified militant was killed by security forces and another surrendered in South Kashmir Shopian encounter that broke out on the Friday afternoon, said police.
The encounter ensued in the area, after a cordon and search operation was launched by Police, Army’s 34 RR and CRPF, on the basis of specific information about the presence of militants there.
Officials said one unidentified militant was killed in the operation at Hanjipora area of Shopian during the encounter. After the killing of the militant, another one who was trapped inside the encounter site surrendered himself along with an AK 56 rifle, the official said.
However police after confirming the killing one unidentified militant said that “Second militant of proscribed terror outfit LeT surrendered along with AK 56 rifle during live encounter.
Police said that “IGP Kashmir once again reiterates his appeal to all misguided youth who have joined militants folds to shun the path of violence & return to mainstream.”
He also said that the Police is committed to accept them with open arms as society needs them the most, especially their parents. (KNB)
