Jammu Amid chants of ‘bam bam bhole’, the first batch of Amarnath yatris was today flagged off from Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas base camp here for the cave shrine situated in South Kashmir of Himalayas.
The first batch of yatris was flagged off this morning at 0540 hrs by the Jammu and Kashmir Minister for Tourism Nawang Rigzin Jora, Minister for Industries SS Slathia and Political advisor to the Chief Minister Devender Singh Rana.
“A batch of total 2298 yatris comprising 1470 males, 477 females, 110 children and 241 sadhus left for the Amarnath cave shrine,” police spokesman said.
He said the pilgrims left in a convoy of 69 vehicles including 29 buses of State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC), 22 civil and 18 light motor vehicles.
“Tight security arrangements have been made for the yatra as a convoy of security forces also accompanied the yartris on way to the Srinagar for incident free pilgrimage,” he said.
