JAMMU:Director General of IMPA, Dr. Pawan Kotwal today inaugurated the plantation work being undertaken by the Forest Department, Jammu at IMPA Complex, Sidhra. The faculty members, officers and staff members of the Institute also took active part in plantation work by planting one plant each.
The Divisional Forest Officer, Range Officer and also other staff members of Forest Department were also associated in plantation drive.
This Institute is also organizing a series of 2-day refresher courses for Sarpanchs of J&K State from today in which 67 Sarpanchs of Block Akhnoor and R. S. Pura, Jammu respectively attended the first programme.
The training course is sponsored by the Department of Rural Development Department.
Dr. Pawan Kotwal interacted with the participants and highlighted the role of sarpanchs in democratic decentralization. The participants were acquainted/oriented with devolution of powers and functions to halqa panchayats and their execution vis-a-vis fourteen departments, the need for their extended role and responsibilities in overall functioning of panchayts in this state besides motivated them for gaining the sense of optimism and confidence in halqa panchayats.
The Director General expressed pleasure while observing their enthusiasm.
Dr. Reva Sharma, Course Coordinator briefed the participants about the design, objective and importance of the course.
