Srinagar: Expressing anguish over the deteriorating power position in the Kashmir valley, the CPI (M) today demanded that the government get the Rangarajan Committee recommendations implemented.

In a statement here, party state secretary Mohammad Yousuf Targami expressed deep anguish over the deteriorated power supply during the ongoing winter season.

He said due to erratic and irregular power supply the people of the valley had been forced to come on the streets.

He said the same situation was being repeated during every winter season soon after the offices move to Jammu and the people were left helpless due to lack of basic amenities, especially power and essential commodities.

The government and divisional administration seemed to be insensitive to the concerns of the people and tall claims of providing every facility to the people were made by the government when there was practically nothing on the ground level, he alleged.

“It is much bewildering that despite huge hydro power potential, Jammu and Kashmir has turned into a power deficit state instead of being a surplus one.” Mr Targami said the state government should get the Rangarajan Committee recommendations implemented as it suggests handing over of the power projects to the state besides implementing the Micro and Mini Hydle Power Project schemes.

Having got people’s mandate for better delivery mechanism and responsive administration, the present coalition regime was not fulfilling its democratic obligations and acknowledging the aspirations of the people, he said and added that the government should be alive to the needs and aspirations of the people and make all out efforts to redress the grievances and ensure better delivery system for providing basic facilities to the people.

“Much is being talked about curbing the corruption at government level and by the civil societies but the fact remains that negligence by the official machinery in dispensation of justice is also one of the facets of the corruption which needs to be done away with a heavy hand by the government,” the CPI(m) leader added.( KMW News)
