Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today visited the residence of Jamait-ul-Ahalhadees (JuA) chief Moulana Showkat Ahmad Shah, who was killed in an explosion near here yesterday.
The Chief Minister, before visting the bereaved family, strongly condemned the assassination of the Moulana.
Terming the act “most heinous”, Mr Abdullah said killing of the religious scholar was a great loss to society.
He said those responsible for the crime have exhibited their inhuman behaviour towards the civil society and the innocents.
Mr Abdullah met Maulana Riyaz Ahmad Shah and Maulana Imtiyaz Ahamd Shah, brothers of the slain leader.
He also consoled Shoaib Ahmad, the 15-year-old-son of the deceased.
He said the void created by Moulana Shah’s murder would be very difficult to fill and his death was a great loss to the Kashmiri society.
Elaborate security arrangements were made around the densely populated Lal Bazar in the city outskirts ahead of the chief minister’s visit.
He was accompanied by Tourism Minister Nasir Sogami and Director General of Police Kuldeep Khoda.
