Pulwama: At least six policemen were injured when agitated protestors turned the police ‘Rakshak’ upside down in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district. The youth were mourning the death of the two Jaish militants who were killed in a gunfight with troopers in Keller area. Meanwhile complete shutdown was observed in the Town against the killing of two militants. Police resorted to aerial firing and tear gas shelling to disperse the agitated youth.
Pertinently, in an encounter which started on Wednesday Divisional Commander of Jaish-e-Mohammad Altaf Baba of Aglar Pakharpora was killed at Yachu Guchan, Kellar.
Another militant Mohammad Abbas Nengroo was killed during the wee hours on Thursday.
As the word about his death spread, hundreds of people from Pulwama and other adjoining areas took to the streets to mourn their death. Amid pro-freedom slogans, the agitated youth turned a police vehicle upside down and tried to set it on fire. However, police swung into action and resorted to aerial firing. The protestors reorganized themselves at Muran Chowk and pelted stones on police and CRPF personnel.
Police used dozens of tear gas shells to disperse the protestors. The clashes continued for hours. At least six policemen were injured during these clashes.
“The policemen suffered minor injuries and they are stable. We did not arrest anyone and neither we have imposed curfew. Situation was brought under control and everything is normal,” a police official told.

Meanwhile complete shutdown was observed in the town against the killing of the two militants. Shops and business establishments remained closed while traffic remained off the roads. Hundreds of people from Aglar Kandi and its adjoining areas gathered at the slain militant’s native village and participated in his funeral prayers. (CNS)
