Kargil, October 28: The Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC), LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, today convened a high-level meeting with Rudra Gound, IAS, Administrative Secretary, UT Ladakh (Animal Husbandry, Sheep Husbandry & Fisheries; Industries & Commerce including Mining & Geology; Power Development & New Renewable Energy), at the Council Secretariat, Kargil.
The meeting focused on reviewing the progress and identifying priority areas across several crucial departments, including Animal Husbandry, Sheep Husbandry, Fisheries, Industries & Commerce, Power Development, and Mining.
Addressing the meeting, Dr. Akhoon emphasized the importance of coordinated and need-based interventions for the overall development of these sectors in Kargil district.
In the animal husbandry sector, the CEC underlined the urgent need to intensify sterilization drives for stray dogs, particularly in urban areas, and proposed increase honorarium for dog catchers to ensure sustained implementation. He also called for subsidized improved cattle breeds and enhanced training programs for veterinarians and animal husbandry officials to improve livestock productivity.
Under the handloom and handicrafts sector, Dr. Akhoon stressed establishing new training centers for women, citing the growing interest and potential witnessed during his recent visits to various villages.
In the fisheries sector, the CEC appreciated the ongoing initiatives of the department and requested the establishment of additional selling points for trout fish to promote local aquaculture and boost rural livelihoods.
Regarding sheep rearing, he recommended strengthening and upgrading the Rarzi Scheme to further support local herders and the wool-based economy.
For the Industries and Commerce Department, Dr. Akhoon urged for the expedited disbursement of subsidized loans to local entrepreneurs to encourage industrial growth and employment generation.
In the Power Development Department (PDD), the CEC highlighted the need for insulated cabling in vulnerable areas, immediate repair and replacement of damaged poles, and the identification of viable small hydro-power projects to strengthen the local power infrastructure.
On Mining and Geology, he emphasized the early auctioning of mineral resources to ensure transparent and regulated extraction while maximizing revenue for the Union Territory.
The meeting was attended by Executive Councillor Er. Phunchok Tashi; Deputy Commissioner Kargil Rakesh Kumar, Chief Engineer, PDD Ladakh; Superintending Engineer, PDD; Chief Animal Husbandry Officer; General Manager, District Industries Centre (DIC); District Sheep Husbandry Officer; Executive Engineers of M&RE, PDC, and STD; District Mining Officer (Geology & Mining); and Assistant Director, Fisheries, among others.
Dr. Akhoon appreciated the efforts of all departments and urged the concerned officers to ensure timely execution of decisions taken during the meeting. He reiterated LAHDC Kargil’s commitment to work in close coordination with the UT Administration to strengthen infrastructure and promote sustainable development across key sectors.
