JAMMU: Mr. N. N. Vohra, Governor, today emphasized upon the students to work hard and achieve excellence in academics and other extra-curricular activities to build a promising future for themselves and to contribute meaningfully towards the development and prosperity of their State and the country.
The Governor was interacting with a group of 24 students from various educational institutions in the Bhadarwah area of Doda district, who called on him at Raj Bhavan here this evening, on their return from a 13-day educational tour to various places of historical and cultural importance in Goa and Delhi. This tour was organized by Army’s 4 RR Battalion under the Sadbhavana Programme. It was flagged-off from Bhadarwah on 1st January and will conclude on 13th January, 2012.
The touring students studying in 7th class to B. A. Part I shared with the Governor their experiences during this tour. The students were accompanied by an officer and personnel of 4 RR and two of their teachers who had been with them on the tour.
The Governor enquired from the students about the places they had visited during the tour and those that they had liked the most. All the students said that it was an excellent opportunity for them to have been given the opportunity of visiting various places of educational, historical and cultural interest. He also enquired from the students the vocations they wished to take up, their hobbies and the games they played. For most of the students it was their first ever visit outside the State, for which they thanked the Army.
The Governor asked Maj. Alok Babu, who had accompanied the students during the tour, to provide each student a brief write-up giving details of the various historical places and monuments they had visited, to broaden their knowledge. He said that during future visits to any coastal area the children must also be taken on board Navy or Coast Guard ships.
During their visit to Panjim, Madgaon and Vasco-da-Gama in Goa the students visited Naval Aviation Museum, Aguada Fort, Calangute Beach, Bogmalla Beach, Colva Beach, Main Markets and other places of historical and cultural interest. In Delhi, the students visited Rashtrapati Bhavan, Red Fort, Raj Ghat, Qutab Minar, Jamia Masjid, Jantar Mantar, Lotus Temple and other important landmarks in the Union capital. They also had a Metro ride in Delhi.
The Governor presented gifts to the students and wished them a bright future ahead.
