Administrator, Municipal Committee of Kargil, takes stock of snow clearance operations in Kargil Town

Kargil, February 28: Administrator, Municipal Committee of Kargil (MC-Kargil), Imteeaz Kacho, today visited various municipal areas of Kargil and conducted an extensive inspection of the snow clearance measures.

The Administrator visited several key locations including Baroo, Fatima Chowk area, Islamia School Chowk area, Main Market, Lal Chowk, Lchangra Bazaar and toured the river-bank side to take a first-hand stock of the situation and to supervise effective snow clearance operations.

He also intended to ascertain whether public and commuters are facing any inconvenience. The Administrator was accompanied by District Traffic Inspector, Mohammad Nissar, at most locations.

Kacho also met workers of the Municipal Committee on the roads and in the MC-Yard and thanked them for putting in their best efforts towards facilitating delivery of essential services. While directing them to remain on high alert to face any eventuality, he lauded their efforts for starting operations in the early hours of the day.

The Administrator emphasized that workers of MC-Kargil have been working tirelessly to clear all major roads and lanes to maintain uninterrupted connectivity in coordination with the Traffic Police and to ensure that residents do not face any inconvenience in the wake of the fresh spell of snowfall. He stated that men and machinery of MC-Kargil have been put into service. He added that vital roads, such as Hospital Road and other key routes, have already been cleared while giving credit for this to the dedicated workers of MC-Kargil workers who have constantly been on the ground.

He further informed that teams are actively deployed at different locations, including Gongma Kargil, Byamathang and Kargil Bazaar to make all possible efforts to keep the roads accessible and traffic worthy. 

The Administrator informed that, under the directions of the Deputy Commissioner, the District Administration of Kargil is prioritizing the clearance of main roads in coordination with other departments to streamline traffic movement and to ensure that essential services are not affected.

He reiterated that the roads leading to the Examination Centres of 10th and 12th Classes, in the urban areas, have been cleared on priority to facilitate smooth movement of students and staff on duty.

Kacho urged residents to cooperate with MC-Kargil and exercise patience while assisting the workers in smooth operations. He also residents of the town to carefully clear snow from rooftops to avoid accidents or any damage and to coordinate with teams of MC-Kargil for better management.

He made an appeal to people not to leave vehicles unnecessarily parked in the markets and on roads in order to protect them from snow falling from rooftops.

He assured that MC-Kargil will not leave any stone unturned in the quest towards keeping all roads, lanes and by-lanes clear and that teams will remain on high alert in case of further snowfall. He reaffirmed the administration’s commitment towards providing uninterrupted connectivity despite weather challenges and assured that all necessary measures will be in place to tackle any unforeseen situation.
